Minimum Order Quantity in Wholesale Kids Clothing

Almost every wholesale buyer opens with the same question: "What is your minimum order?" This guide explains what sets the minimum in kids clothing production, which parts of it you can move, and how to plan a sensible first order.

What MOQ Actually Is

MOQ is the smallest quantity a manufacturer will run at once. It is not an arbitrary number — it comes out of how production works:

  • Fabric rolls: Fabric is bought in rolls, not metres. A roll opened for one colour turns into waste below a certain quantity.
  • Patterns and cutting: Pattern making and marker laying are fixed costs, whether you split them across 30 pieces or 300.
  • Trims: Buttons, labels and snaps arrive with their own minimums.
  • Sewing line: A line is set up for one style; changing style stops the line.

So MOQ answers a production question — "what is the smallest batch that keeps the line efficient?" — not a commercial one.

What Moves the Number

It changes style by style, even with the same manufacturer:

FactorEffect on MOQ
Number of coloursEach extra colour is a separate fabric batch and pushes the minimum up
Size rangeA wide size set raises the quantity per run
FabricStock fabric allows small runs; custom weaving does not
Embroidery and printA separate workstation with its own minimum
Labels and packagingOwn-brand labels carry a print minimum
SeasonA full line during peak season raises the minimum

In practice: a style in stock fabric, one colour, neutral label runs at the lowest quantity. Custom colour plus custom label plus embroidery moves it up.

Can You Mix Styles?

This is what most buyers actually need — a reasonable quantity across several styles rather than a large run of one. Two things are separate here:

  • Per-style minimum: what that style needs to be produced at all.
  • Per-order minimum: the total the whole order should reach.

Styles served from stock may carry no per-style minimum; styles entering production do. The useful question is: "Can an order be built from these three styles at these quantities?" — the quote answers exactly that.

Planning a First Order

  1. Ask for samples. Discussing quantity before seeing fabric and stitching is premature. Our fabric quality guide covers what to check.
  2. Start with few styles. Three or four is enough to learn your sell-through. A wide first collection becomes leftover sizes.
  3. Ask for a size split that matches your sales data, not a standard ratio.
  4. Agree repeat terms up front. If the first batch is small, settle the terms of the second one now.
  5. Get the delivery date in writing. On seasonal product, two weeks late can cost the whole season.

How It Works at ARD Kids Wear

We produce baby (9–24 months) and kids (2–9 years) ranges at our facility in Bursa Yıldırım. Minimums are set per style, based on fabric, number of colours and labelling. We do not publish a single fixed number, because the same figure that is realistic for one style would needlessly block a buyer on another.

Share these three things and quantity and price are settled the same day:

  • The style codes you are interested in (pick them from the catalogue)
  • Your quantity range and size split
  • Whether you need your own label, and which type

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I order a very small quantity of one style?

Possible for styles held in stock. Styles entering production have a floor set by fabric and line economics, shared per style.

Can I combine styles to reach the minimum?

For total order size, yes. Each style entering production is still assessed on its own floor.

Are samples charged?

Sample requests are assessed per style and quantity — message us on WhatsApp to confirm.

Does the unit price drop with volume?

Yes. Fabric and cutting costs spread across more pieces, so unit price improves with quantity.

Conclusion

MOQ is not a negotiating tactic, it is production arithmetic. Narrowing the number of styles and concentrating quantity buys you a better price and a faster delivery for the same budget. Browse the catalogue and request a quote with your style codes.
